More than 100 people gathered at the corner of Harford Road and Homestead Street in Baltimore to honor the life of 24-year-old Eric Browner Jr., who was killed in a hit-and-run on Oct. 23.
A marching band played as family and friends held each other, mourning the loss of Browner.
Kyra Robinson, the mother of Browner’s 3-year-old daughter, Harmony, shared her grief.
“My 3-year-old is now without her everything,” Robinson said. “My life has forever changed, my family’s life, my child’s life, everything has changed. It’s a nightmare, it’s never going to be the same.”
Police said Browner was struck and killed by a carjacked 2009 red Toyota Corolla around 11 p.m. They released photos of four individuals who reportedly exited the vehicle and fled the scene.
A short time later, two people returned to the scene to remove items from the car before leaving again in a gray Nissan Altima, police said.
Browner’s mother, Chantia Robinson, described the pain of losing her son.
“It’s been very, like, emotional, silent, you know, heartbreaking, you know, for my firstborn to, you know, like, be, you know, like, killed in a senseless act, for no reason,” Robinson said.
Ashley Browner, Eric’s aunt, remembered him fondly.
“The most loving, giving, fun, calm, he would light up a room. I can say that, and everyone who came in contact with him, he touched them,” she said.
Ashley also recounted the last time she saw Eric.
“I was at the house. I braided Harmony’s hair, and he was getting her ready to go to his uncle’s football game,” she said.
She reflected on Eric’s role as a father.
“Being a new father, he was at three years old, he’s still asking questions, but he was so attentive to her, you know. And it was just one of the purest moments to witness. And like I said, to know that that evening he didn’t make it back home to her, it was so heartbreaking,” she said.
As the community stood in solidarity with candles lit, they expressed hope that those responsible for Eric’s death would be brought to justice.
“Please, if you know something, please say something,” Kyra Robinson said.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward to assist in their investigation.
